U-Haul has opened a new, 117,154-square-foot retail and self storage facility in Apache Junction, Ariz. Development began in 2018.
The three-story building offers 900 non-climate- and climate-controlled units, ranging between 25 and 200 square feet. The property also includes 144 covered RV spots with electric hookups and a warehouse that can store more than 650 portable moving containers.
Amenities include 24-hour video surveillance, elevator access, moving supplies, towing equipment, individually alarmed rooms, drive-up and gated access and on-site manager.
The facility is at 3395 S. Idaho Road, has access to U.S. Route 60 and is 35 miles from downtown Phoenix. The facility is one of the eight available in a 3-mile radius, offering residents 8.6 rentable square feet per capita.
As of January, Phoenix had 20 self storage projects under construction, set to add 1.3 million rentable square feet to the existing inventory, Yardi Matrix data shows. Another 112 properties are currently in the planning and prospective stages.
U-Haul’s Phoenix portfolio includes 37 self storage facilities, a total of 3.2 million square feet. The growing residential and commercial development in the area surrounding the metro leads to demand for self storage expansion, according to prepared statements from Andy Smith, President of U-Haul Company of Eastern Arizona.
Among the company’s projects in the last 12 months is a 138,000-square-foot facility in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and an under-construction property in Bakersfield, Calif., that will boast 173,866 square feet, set to become partially operational this summer.
