Mississippi State University will develop Azalea Hall, a $80.7 million, 400-bed student housing community in Starkville, Miss. Roy Anderson Corp., a subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corp., is the general contractor. Wier Boerner Allin Architecture is the designer of the project and HPM will manage the full scope of construction.
In November last year, the Luckyday Foundation donated $4 million for the development. Construction on the project is expected to start next month, with completion scheduled for the spring of next year.
The five-story residence hall will measure some 155,000 square feet and will also include a dining area, offices and day spaces for studying and socializing, together with multipurpose space for classes. Other expected amenities include a community kitchen and fitness center. The pod-style rooms will have separate bathroom facilities and will be destined for first-year students.
The student community will rise at the junction of Barr Avenue and Hurst Lane, within walking distance of Mississippi State University’s campus and Davis Wade Stadium. A host of dining and retail options will be within 4 miles, including Starkville Crossings shopping mall. Golden Triangle Regional Airport will be 15 miles west.
Roy Anderson’s previous projects in partnership with Mississippi State University include Magnolia & Oak Halls, two student communities that feature 182 units each, a science and technology center, and the expansion and renovation of the Davis Wade Stadium.
