The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda has received $20.6 million in construction financing for the development of North Housing Senior Apartments, a 64-unit senior affordable housing community in Alameda, Calif.
The California Department of Housing and Community Development provided the financing. Island City Development will be the developer and HKIT Architects is designing the building. Upon completion, FPI Management will manage the property.
The development is the first phase of the North Housing project, a mixed-income residential neighborhood. The project will include a mix of senior and family housing.
Units at the first phase are reserved for people 62 and over. A quarter of residents will be veterans in need of supportive housing. LifeSTEPS will provide case management and resident social services.
Upcoming green building in Alameda
North Housing Senior Apartments will encompass studios and one-bedroom floorplans. The community will offer a laundry room, parking spaces and bike parking, a community room, computer rooms and outdoor picnic areas. Island City Development will use green materials, water-conscious and energy-efficient technologies for the development. The developer will also apply for Green Point Gold certification.
The development site is located at 501 Mosley Ave. The 12 acres Were donated to AHA by the U.S. Navy in 2019. The donation was under a homeless conveyance, which required for the development to provide housing for formerly homeless veterans.
The California Department of Housing and Community Development also contributed with funding for Potrero Block B, a 157-unit affordable housing development in San Francisco.
