Development and construction management firm New Empire Corp. has broken ground on the 120-unit condominium community 24-01 Queens Plaza North in the New York City borough of Queens.
Located in a formerly industrial part of Queens, between Long Island City and Astoria, the property will be a full-service 19-story residential building. Common-area amenities will include a communal outdoor space and penthouse lounge. New Empire Corp. is known for incorporating outdoor and decompression spaces, including Zen gardens and balconies, in its residential developments. Architectural firm ODA Architecture designed the 115,000-square-foot project.

Public transit hub
New Empire Corp. acquired the site at 24-01 Queens Plaza last year. Located along the East River dividing Queens from Manhattan, Long Island City offers subway and bus access to other boroughs. The property is one subway stop from Manhattan.
Once-industrial Long Island City is home to many former factories and warehouses that have been converted to lofts. The neighborhood is also home to low-rise apartment buildings, high-end condominiums and single-family dwellings. Queens Plaza is the nearest subway station, while commuter rail service is accessible at nearby Long Island City Station.
Last month, New Empire Corp. and CORE Real Estate broke ground on a new Manhattan multifamily community.
