Which are you seeing this weekend? The candy-colored film directed by Greta Gerwig, or the dark (with literally black-and-white scenes) film directed by Christopher Nolan? Both have amazing casts. (Margot Robbie! Ryan Gosling! Kate McKinnon! vs. Cillian Murphy! Robert Downey Jr.! Emily Blunt!, respectively.) Both got great reviews. Both sound interesting.
And that’s why many are planning on doing a double feature—Barbieheimer!
The odd thing, though, about Barbieheimer, is that the movies seem to be, if not opposites, pretty different. In theory, they shouldn’t appeal to the same people, but they do. (Though any excuse for more movie theater popcorn, am I right?)
To say it in Gen Z (with some older generations thrown in), it’s giving “you got chocolate in my peanut butter” vibes.
In your multifamily community, do you ever want to plan events but are only able to appeal to one group of renters? Learn from Barbieheimer. Here are some event suggestions to actually might appeal to a large selection of your residents—even though it might not seem like it at first!
- Paint & Wine event: This could appeal to your artsy residents and also people who want to socialize.
- Cornhole and barbeque with a bouncy house: Adults will like cornhole and hamburgers and hot dogs (so will kids). Kids will have fun in the bouncy house (so will adults).
- Pet costume parade: The people with pets will love participating, and even if you don’t have dogs or cats yourself, you’d have to be a real Grinch not to want to watch. (Especially if one of the dogs was dressed like the Grinch. That would be so cute!)
- Pickleball lessons: Pickleball is so hot right now. People who know how to play can mingle, and people who are curious can learn, and it can be played indoors or outdoors, so you have lots of options.
- Volunteer events: Pick a local organization that means a lot to the community. It gives residents a chance to help and also to interact with each other.
- Make your own sundae bar: This has no ambiguity. Everyone will be interested.
- Group trip to see Barbie and Oppenheimer: Duh.
