Construction has begun on Stonebridge Associates’ Oakville, an Alexandria, Va., project that will feature 572 new apartment units, dozens of luxury townhouses and tens of thousands of square feet of retail space, along with a new Inova Medical and Emergency facility.
The mixed-use development will also offer 84 luxury townhouses. The retail space will total 37,000 square feet. The community will also feature two levels of below-grade parking, as well as a new approximately 0.75-acre public park.
Modern enclave
The first phase of Oakville is slated for delivery in early 2024. The entire project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026.The mixed-use development will be situated on a 12.3-acre site in Alexandria’s Oakville Triangle Small Area Plan, bounded by Mount Jefferson Park, Route 1, Calvert Avenue and Fannon Street. The area is near Potomac Yard Park, Daingerfied Island and the Washington Sailing Marina. The goal of the developers is to transform this parcel, formerly used for industrial activity, into a modern neighborhood.
Fiber optic internet service provider Lux Speed is providing high-speed internet service at the apartments that will be developed at Oakville. The bulk internet provider works with homeowner associations, condominium owner associations and property management companies to deliver internet service. Future residents of the Oakville Community multifamily units will receive assistance from the Lux Speed domestic technical support team. The Lux Speed technology will be available to everyone in the community.
“Engaging and educating the community about the benefits of fiber optic internet is crucial,” Lux Speed Deputy CEO and Chief Marketing Officer Jennie Rios told Multi-Housing News. “Lux Speed Internet hosted community outreach programs, town hall meetings and informative sessions to address any concerns, clarify misconceptions and build trust among Oakville residents. We actively sought feedback and incorporated community input into their network development plans.”
A few months ago, Pennrose unveiled in Alexandria an affordable housing community for residents earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area’s median income.
