In last month’s poll, MHN surveyed readers about how they are preparing their communities for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. At a time when more and more states mandate vehicle chargers in the construction of new properties, developers, owners and property managers are evaluating how the chargers may factor into the needs of their residents, considering more than 80 percent of charging is done at home.

A combined 32 percent of respondents stated that chargers are either already in use or in the process of being installed at their communities, a figure likely to increase as states mandate their inclusion in new developments. The highest percentage, 36 percent, stated that they are still doing research on the chargers, likely factoring in utility availabilities and renter demographics in determining both the number and type to install.
Finally, 32 percent of those surveyed answered that they have no plans at the moment, as the distribution of electric vehicles around the nation is widely centered around specific regions and populations, while older buildings often have difficulty accommodating a retrofit.
