Gilbane Building Co. and 722 Metropolitan LLC have completed Umbrella Factory, a 69-unit luxury condominium project in New York City’s Brooklyn borough. Rawlings Architects PC designed the redevelopment of the historic building at 710 Metropolitan Ave., constructed as an umbrella factory in 1943.
The former Embee Sunshade Co. property was transformed into a mixed-use residential asset that preserves the historic building’s character through its unique façade, sustainable design and structural elements. The seven-story project is roughly 90 percent wood and features large, exposed Southern Pine timber beams.
Amenities at Umbrella Factory include:
- communal and private dining areas
- dog run and dog wash
- onsite parking with EV chargers
- bike storage
- fully equipped fitness center
- two barbecue areas
- individual storage
Located in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood, the Umbrella Factory provides convenient access to various shopping, dining and entertainment venues including Cooper Park, Grand Street Campus Field, CTown Supermarkets and Taste of Heaven. Additionally, the property provides easy access to both Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.
